Week 1: The Best of Italy

The Taste Of Home

“What I love most about going out for Italian food in the Tri-Cities, is how it reminds me of meals that I had growing up with my Nonna and Nonno.”

Justina Weber, a solopreneur in Port Coquitlam, grew up in a two-story home with her Italian grandparents. Now, when she misses authentic Italian cuisine, she visits her favourite restaurants in the Tri-Cities.

“I was very lucky to grow up with my Nonna and Nonno living downstairs, and now what I love is having a dish that reminds me of that time. It can be something so simple but it has so many memories attached to it.”

When asked where in the Tri-Cities Justina goes to enjoy delicious memory-inspiring cooking, she enthusiastically says “Rosa’s in Port Moody.”

For many residents of the Tri-Cities, cooking can be a window into their childhood - from watching their parents cook, to learning recipes from their guardians or, as in Justina’s case, enjoying delicious meals made by her grandparents.

And with the unique herbs, spices and flavours of Italy, it is no surprise that Italians in the Tri-Cities settle for nothing but the best!

It’s Not Just Pizza And Pasta

Although those are delicious!

Italian cuisine consists of many different types of dishes and, often, it’s about quality over quantity. If you have ever been to Italy, you know that chefs create classic dishes with very few ingredients, relying heavily on the high quality of the products.

From risottos and cured meats, to fresh produce and breads. From red meat, seafood and chicken to delicious sauces. From gelato and baked confections to wine and espresso, there is something for everyone in Italian cuisine.
