Week 3: Pub Grub & Happy Hour

Pub Grub

What can I say about good ole’ fashioned Pub Grub that you don’t already know?

For many of us - Pub Grub is a staple. It’s comfort food, shared with good friends at the local public house where everyone knows your name. Well, maybe that’s just in Cheers. But! Most pubs, especially the ones here in the Tri-Cities, make you feel like a regular no matter how many times you’ve been there (or haven’t yet!).

What I will say about Pub Grub is that its magic is not just in the tastiness of the food itself - but rather in the feeling you get when you’re eating it.

For those of you who have a local, neighbourhood pub, you know exactly what I’m talking about.

If you don’t have a favourite go-to spot yet, no worries! Read on to discover some of the best pubs that are just around the corner.

What Is It?

Brown’s Social House

Now, some of you might be asking yourself, “what exactly is Pub Grub?”

Pub Grub takes on many forms. In Ireland and the UK, Pub Grub is bangers and mash, Yorkshire pudding, fish and chips or steak and Guinness pie.

In North America, Pub Grub includes burgers and fries, chicken wings and nachos.

Here in Canada, we are constantly seeing additions to Pub Grub, such as flatbread, crispy brussels sprouts and yam fries. Oh, and who can forget our national favourite - poutine.

No matter where you are in the world, Pub Grub has one major thing in common. It’s comfort food. It’s good ole’ home cooking, but done for you.

This week we encourage you to visit your local pub and grab some grub!

Happy Hour

Brown’s Social House

You can’t talk about Pub Grub without mentioning Happy Hour.

While many people may think that Happy Hour is just for drinks, you may be pleasantly surprised to know that food is usually discounted during Happy Hour as well!

Once upon a time, in a galaxy far away, workers would clock off their jobs around 5pm and crawl over to the local bar for a drink with their co-workers.

Noticing the spike in traffic at this time everyday, bar owners quickly began offering discounts for the hour between 5-6pm to attract these tired workers to their establishments.

Over time, Happy Hour has grown and taken on many different forms.

In the Tri-Cities, for example, you can find Happy Hours at almost any time of day. In fact, some places have two Happy Hours every day!

At Dinaki’s Mediterranean Grill, for example, you can enjoy a cocktail, highball, wine, beer or cider for only $3.99 everyday from 2pm-6pm and then again from 8pm till closing.
