Week 10: Fiesta Food

Va De Nuez

Here we go again! Welcome to Week 10 of our Savour the Summer campaign, presented by Tri-Local’s Taste of the Tri-Cities.

If you haven’t been following along with us this summer, let’s catch you up!

All summer we have been celebrating different cuisines that can be found right here in the Tri-Cities. From Breweries to BBQ and Patios to Persian, we have been exploring what our local community has to offer.

Check out our Taste of The Tri-Cities page to discover what is coming up next, and read our Savour the Summer blog posts to see what you may have missed!

Nacho Average Mexican Food

Puns aside, let’s TACO’bout how amazing our local Mexican restaurants are? One might even say that are the most Mexellent restaurants around!

Well.. this is GUAC-ward…

Okay, okay. That was the last one. I swear!

In all seriousness, if you haven’t enjoyed our local Mexican joints recently, we highly recommend that you stop by Taps & Tacos, Mercado by Orginal’s, Si Senior Taqueria or any of the other delicious eateries we will be exploring today.

Yo Quiero Mas

“I want more” - what I always end up saying when I visit a local Mexican restaurant.

In a World where tacos, nachos and quesadillas have become common-place, I cannot recommend authentic Mexican cuisine enough. While non-Mexican restaurants have delicious Canadianized versions of these popular dishes, they just cannot compare with the real flavours of Mexico.

Read on to discover where you can grab some comida muy deliciosa.

BC Taco

This local food truck needs to be the first stop on your Mexican Food tour of the Tri-Cities. Founded in 2016 by a Port Moody couple, their delicious classics can often be found right on Brewer’s Row. Enjoy an authentic taco, burrito or tostada while sipping on a tasty craft beer or refreshing cocktail at Rocky Point Spirits. Oh, and they cater too!

Charlie’s Mexican Restaurant

Like they say right on their website: “Charlie’s Mexican Restaurant gives you the classic taste of Mexican food without needing to leave the country!” What more could you want? Located right on St. John’s St. in Port Moody, Charlie’s has been a local go-to for years.

Loz Takos Urban Taquieria

If you’re looking for some traditional Mexican street food on the go, look no further. Located in the heart of Coquitlam, Loz Takos delivers quality Mexican classics fast. When the other alternatives are Canadianized fast food, Loz Takos stands out as the clear go-to for authentic Mexican flavours.

Mercado Mexican Market & Taqueria, by Original’s

Not a restaurant, but a one-stop-shop for all your Mexican cravings. This market, founded and operated by Original’s Mexicano (see below) was created to bring fresh, authentic Mexican ingredients and groceries right to us! As they say on their website, they want you to be the star of the night. Get your recipes out, swing by Mercado and impress everyone you know with a delicious home-cooked meal.

Original’s Mexicano

Possibly the most unique dining experience in the Tri-Cities, Original’s is run out of a heritage home in the heart of Port Moody. Swing by on your next date night, or with your group of friends, to enjoy the amazingly cozy atmosphere and deliciously authentic Mexican classics. And don’t worry, Original’s isn’t just about the food! Order a horchata, cafe de olla, la paloma or classic margarita for a well-rounded Mexican experience.

Si Senior Taqueria

Where traditional meets contemporary - Si Senior Taqueria delivers a “surprisingly sophisticated take on comida Mexicana.” Inspired by real Mexican markets, Si Senior Taqueria creates freshly made, hand-crafted dishes that will having you craving more. Located on Shaughnessy St. in Downtown Port Coquitlam, this local favourite has everything you need for an adventura Mexicana.

Taps & Tacos

Clearly no one loves Mexican food as much as Port Moodians. Our last, but definitely no los menos restaurant is the 4th Port Moody stop on this list. Unlike the other eateries in the area, Taps & Tacos boasts a beautiful view of Rocky Point right from their dining room. Floor to ceiling windows create a “tropical and energetic atmosphere,” which paired with the friendliness of the staff guarantees that you will have a fun night out. Swing by for their tasty dishes, and don’t forget to enjoy their amazing tap list and cocktail menu (did someone say Margarita Monday’s!?).
