About Tri-Local

The Brand.

Tri-Local is designed to engage, educate and motivate our community to support local businesses and to keep their money within the Tri-Cities. As the face of local businesses, the Tri-Local Collective strives to show consumers first-hand how their support of local independent businesses goes beyond those store-fronts and into the community as a whole.
For every $100 spent at an independent business, $63 is recirculated back into the local economy, while only $14 trickles down from multinationals. This money is reinvested into the community through charitable donations, taxes, job creation and through supply chain management. In addition, local businesses create 8.4x more jobs than big corporations. Overall, money spent on our local economy impacts our community 4.6x more than money spent elsewhere.
We believe that by showing our neighbours how their money is making a difference, it will encourage them to continue supporting the Tri-Cities.

Our Goal

Our goal is to establish such a strong brand, that when a consumer sees our logo in a store window, or on a street sign, they are reminded of our wonderful community and the businesses that make the Tri-Cities so great.

We want to make the Tri-Local community brand a campaign that our local residents feel proud to support.

Our vision

To be the brand of the Tri-Cities.

The History.

Tri-Local began as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020. The Tri-Cities Chamber of Commerce recognized that local businesses would struggle to thrive during lockdowns and capacity restrictions, and foresaw the need for a shop local initiative. The Chamber reached out to their partners, and together, they created the Tri-Local Collective.

The Collective - made up of the Tri-Cities Chamber of Commerce, Austin Heights BIA, Downtown PoCo BIA, Shop Local Port Moody, Port Moody & Co., Tri-City News and the cities of Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and Port Moody - sought to guide consumers through the “new normal” and help our local businesses survive the global pandemic.

The Relaunch.

In 2021, the Federal Government of Canada announced that they were releasing funds to help local businesses recover from COVID-19 lockdowns and restrictions. With over $70,000 in federal funds, distributed through the BC Chamber of Commerce from the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, the Tri-Local Collective was able to invest in our community and shift the focus of our campaign from helping businesses survive, to helping them thrive.

The Future.

Moving forward, the Tri-Local Collective is excited to bring Tri-Local back to life. Through community partnerships, our Tri-Local blog, social media campaigns, advertising, contesting and events, we are gearing up for an amazingly fun and engaging year ahead!
